Addressing the causes of back pain and poor posture

Addressing the causes of back pain, poor posture and shallow breathing will let you keep doing what you love, with more ease, for as long as possible.

Just some of the transformations that we can explore are:

Ageing well – be upright, balanced and stable walk for longer, and move with ease

Relief from chronic back, neck and shoulder pain – be able to do the activities you want to with comfort and ease

Better posture – to help reduce tension, breathe more freely and feel more positive

A sense of peace and calm – learn how to relax and feel calm, reducing stress

Breath and voice work – have longer breaths and a voice you are happier with, whether speaking or singing

Managing hypermobility – feel more balanced, connected, in control and in less discomfort

Gait analysis – to help you change your walking habits. This includes support for people who use walking aids

Exercising without injury – learning new, safer habits of movement and recover well from injuries when they occur

Where? Who?

I am a senior Alexander Technique practitioner with over 20 years’ experience. Most people who come to me  have chronic back, neck or shoulder pain or uncomfortable posture and they are often either working from home or retired

My studio is in north London, near Bounds Green, Alexandra Palace, Wood Green, Palmers Green and Muswell Hill. People travel from all over London to see me and I can work online too. I work with people both one to one and in pairs. I can come into companies to give one off talks or workshops or combine this with one to one lessons in house for a series of weeks or on a longer term basis. I am always open to collaborations with other practitioners, such as yoga teachers, osteopaths, physiotherapists and psychotherapists.

I’m calm and kind and care passionately about what I can offer and strongly believe that ageing doesn’t have to be a downhill process. I have a practical, creative approach, supported by strong technical knowledge. I’m a good listener and work in partnership with my clients to build their confidence and skills in their selves.

‘97% of people with back pain could benefit by learning the Alexander Technique – it is only a very small minority of back pain sufferers that require medical intervention such as surgery.’  Jack Stern, spinal neurosurgeon, NYC

Clients say:

Tanya is brilliant. She is very good at diagnosing, assessing and finding out what is out of balance. Her hands-on rebalancing is absolutely the best thing about the consultation. Her practical advice on how to change my walking has had direct positive impact on knee pain. (Anne Mackay)

You’ve helped me believe that the Alexander Technique can help me more than I thought.  Not only was the pain relieved but I felt more energetic than I’ve felt for ages walking back up the hill and then did a tour of the park. (A, Teacher)

Wherever I have lived, I have always found the Alexander Technique to be the most effective way to deal with back pain and this was initially why I went to Tanya.  Her lessons were the best I have ever had, she really sorted out my back,  so when a few months later I was taking a very long time to recover from a bad bout of flu, I went to her again and I can credit her lessons for getting me back on my feet then.  She is a very kind and non-judgemental person, and she works gently, a real plus. North Londoners can be pleased she is now local to them! (Linda Wilkinson)
